The Artist Issue • Issue #21 • Now Available

Portrait artist Carl Samson agreed to let us watch him paint and be featured in this issue of Best Magazine Cincinnati if we asked and got wildlife artist John Ruthven to be the next subject for one of Carl’s paintings. John agreed and we edited the 3-hour sitting down to 10 minutes. It was quite a session: Master with Master. They had never met prior and this was John Ruthven’s first portrait sitting. Carl uses Frank Duveneck’s actual easel and brushes in his East Walnut Hills studio.
